Abstract:
Sustainable development has emerged as a strategic imperative for commerce and management rather than merely an environmental concern. Rapid technological transformation, resource depletion, climate change, changing consumer expectations, social inequalities, and increasing regulatory pressures are compelling organisations to reconsider how value is created, delivered, and sustained. Contemporary commerce is moving beyond the traditional objective of profit maximisation toward a broader framework that integrates economic prosperity, environmental responsibility, social inclusion, ethical governance, and long-term stakeholder value. This paper examines the evolving relationship between sustainable development, commerce, and management, with particular emphasis on sustainable business models, green finance, responsible supply-chain management, circular economy practices, digital transformation, sustainable marketing, corporate governance, and stakeholder engagement. The paper adopts a conceptual and descriptive research approach based on secondary sources, including academic literature, institutional reports, and sustainability frameworks. It argues that sustainability can become a source of innovation, competitiveness, resilience, and organisational legitimacy when embedded into core managerial decision-making. The paper proposes a Sustainable Commerce and Management Value Framework (SCMVF) integrating economic, environmental, social, technological, and governance dimensions. The study concludes that organisations capable of combining profitability with purpose and innovation with responsibility are better positioned to create sustainable long-term value.
